The Macquarie University (MQ) Advanced Adult Spelling Test (MAAST) tests how well adults can spell difficult words (items) that are commonly misspelled because they contain irregular sound-spelling rules. The MAAST is composed of 72 items. The tester presents each item, one by one, by either saying the item aloud or by playing an audio file of the item. After each item has been presented, the speller is asked to write the item as accurately as possible.
